Bork Didn't Bork Us

Last week, I had the "pleasure" of being wined and dined (or really, not wined enough) at National Review's 50th Anniversary party. Donning the requisite "Republican" pearls, and accompanied by a dashing Vivian Kensington, I was happy to gawk at many famous members of the dastardly party, including: the bombastic Rush Limbaugh, the psuedo-aristocratic William F. Buckley, the villainous Brett Bozell, George W's master of messed up words -- speechwriter Michael Gerson, Bob "Dr. Evil" Novak, and Sen. Joe Lieberman (who I'm sure turned over his Dem credentials as soon as the 2000 election was called to a halt).

What Republican church revival event would be complete without a "celebrity"? So, to make my night complete (since they clearly didn't tell the wait staff to pour guests enough wine), Vivian pleaded with me to get a picture alongside the infamously rejected Robert Bork. Poor guy seems to have aged without his scraggly goatee. I'm just sad that I wasn't intoxicated enough to get my own picture with an anti-celebrity.

As Vivian, Elle's close personal friend and escort to this rather lovely and historic affair, let me just say that Elle speaks for herself and herself alone. For it is true, dear readers...Elle has a friend who is a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN! (Scandalous, I know!)

Being a "conservative republican" is nothing to advertise about yourself :)

Viv -- By the looks on Mr. Bork's and your faces, GOP membership hasn't done much for your dispositions. The once-nominee looks...well, I don't wanna say anything mean. And you look like you have a bug up your butt. Nice tux, though!

Elle -- Did they make you renounce your morals when you walked through the door? And I think it is a good thing they didn't serve you more wine. I hear it makes you think we've won the war and leads you to believe Social Security is a communist conspiracy.

Bruiser, as always, you are hilarious. But fortunately, no, they did not make me renounce my party. And you're probably right about had I been drinking more wine, I might have believed their schtick.

I feel like STSS has suddenly become a sort of confessional for conservatives. As penance, you must listen to 3 hours of Air America per day for 1 month. That'll teach ya!

Perhaps there is a potential love connection for little_lulu_ and vivian????

Little Lulu, I want you to know you are not alone in NYC. My sister and my brother are also conservative Republicans in Manhattan. I will find out where they hold their secret meetings.

Will do, LuLu...I do know the secret password is "Capital Gains Tax must be reduced."
